The Catawba Nation Archives is currently open by appointment only from 9 am - 5 pm, Wednesday - Friday, and is located in the historic Catawba Cultural Center building. The Cultural Center includes a free museum and special programs space focusing on the past, present, and future of the Catawba Nation. There is also a store in the Cultural Center offering traditional crafts and artworks from Catawba and other native artisans. Additionally, the Cultural Center building is home to the Catawba Community Resource Center library and maker-space. Outside, a traditional dancing ground faces the front of the building where amphitheater-style seating allows audiences to enjoy traditional dances and ceremonies during the Catawba Nation's festivals and celebrations, while around back you'll find the Yehasuri Trailhead leading to the Catawba Indian Nation Greenway Trail along the Catawba River, part of the Carolina Thread Trail. Make the time to enjoy all that the Cultural Center has to offer when you visit, and always feel free to approach a member of the staff with any questions that you have.- we'll be happy to answer them all!     How to Get Here

    From the North

    Take I-85 S to I-77 S. Take Exit 77 from I-77 S for US-21 S/SC-5 E toward Lancaster. Turn left onto SC-5 E/US-21 S/S Anderson Rd. Continue straight on S Anderson Rd. for 4 miles, then turn left onto Cannon Dr. for 0.4 miles. Turn left onto Old Friendship Rd./State Rd. S-46-160 for 1.5 miles, then turn right onto George Dunn Rd. for 0.9 miles. Cross Reservation Rd. to continue onto George Dunn Rd./Indian Trail for 0.7 miles, then make a right onto Tom Steven Rd. The Catawba Cultural Center will be on your right. Go down the drive beside the building and park in the spaces marked “Visitor.” The Catawba Indian Nation Archives are located on the lower level of the building at the rear, just before the steps leading up to the covered deck.

    From the South

    From the East

    Take I-74 W to the US-74 W ramp to Wingate/Monroe. Continue onto US-74 W for 5.7 miles, then keep right to stay on E. Roosevelt Blvd. for 0.5 miles. Use the left two lanes to turn left onto Franklin St. for 17 miles. Slight right as Franklin St. becomes E Jefferson St. After 0.4 miles turn left onto N Charlotte Ave., then right onto W Franklin St. for 1.1 miles and continue straight onto Waxhaw Hwy. for 3.7 miles. At the traffic circle take the first exit onto NC-75 W. After 9.4 miles continue onto SC-75 W for 1.8 miles, then turn left onto US-521 S for 1.6 miles. Turn left onto Steel Hill Rd. for 4.6 miles, then right onto SC-5 W for 3.2 miles. Turn right onto Reservation Rd. and continue for 2.7 miles, then turn right onto George Dunn Rd./Indian Trail. Turn right onto Tom Steven Rd. The Catawba Cultural Center will be on your right.     From the West

    Take I-85 N to exit 102 for SC-198/Blacksburg/Rock Hill/SC-5. Turn right onto SC-5 W/N Mountain St. Continue onto SC-5 W for 18 miles. Turn right onto SC-5/Heckle Blvd for 3.4 miles. Turn left onto Albright Rd. for 1.8 miles. At McDonalds, continue straight onto E. Main St. for 0.4 miles, and continue straight onto Anderson Rd for 4 miles. turn left onto Cannon Dr. for 0.4 miles. Turn left onto Old Friendship Rd./State Rd. S-46-160 for 1.5 miles, then turn right onto George Dunn Rd. for 0.9 miles.
